  • OINK!

Okay I am going to join everyone else and dedicate a post to H1N1 (aka the Swine Flu).  Not because I’m freaking out that me or one of the Monsters or The Husband is going to get it and die from the “Swine Influenza”.  Knowing our house, we probly will get the only cases to be recorded in Calgary without ever leaving the country.  But COME ON PEOPLE ITS AN INFLUENZA! BE REASONABLE!  Yes do your due diligence and wash your hands and make sure you’re clean, but you should be doing that anyhow!  It is becoming unbearable to watch the news this past few days because that is all there is talk about.  I feel great empathy for those who did get sick, but to ostracize a child at school because his family went on vacation in Mexico over Christmas …. GIVE  YOUR HEAD A SHAKE!  That same child has more than likely been in all the same places that everyone else in the community has been since they got back weeks before any sickness was reported.

But really, if you already have an compromised immune system, you should be limiting your contact with other people to begin with.  Since the media grabbed that flaming torch and ran with it, freaking the entire world out!, the reports are coming out that the sickness is not as severe as first reported.  It is one doosy of a flu bug, but whole cities are not dyeing from it.  Those who have it are possibly thinking “oh God, please, Please, PUHHHLEEEEESE KILL ME NOW! I DON”T WANT TO BE SICK ANYMORE!”

I was thinking ~ yes, contrary to popular belief, that actually happens! as I was driving home from work the other day, how we have become a world of germophobes.  Me included!  You will find Lysol wipes all throughout my house especially in the kitchen and bathrooms.  But you know, I have children and those children play in the dirt and do gross things like eat bugs. I HAVE GERMS IN MY HOUSE! and for those of you who visit, I want you to feel that you are not going to leave completely germ infested.  Just partially because you may just come in to contact with my children.  But really I don’t ever recall seeing so much “germ fighting” cleaners when I was a child as there is now.  In fact I was taught to clean with vinegar and a cloth.  Good old Murphy’s Oil Soap was used on the wood to keep it in good knick and the windows were cleaned with vinegar, water, a clean rag and then wiped with news print for a streak free shine.  Hands were washed with a bar of soap and most likely Dial.  Good old Gold Dial. dial soapdial soapJust writing that brings back memories.  But I have survived to a ripe old age with out having hand sanitizers, antibacterial hand soaps, Lysol spray (although Mom used Dettol when absolutely pushed to disinfect something, but not often) or wipes for that matter, and my Monsters seem pretty healthy and have very few infections that call for antibiotics.

It is because the world has become germophobic that we have come to create super bugs.  Yes we the population, not some scientist in some obscure lab wearing a white coat and all the protective layers that he needs a separate ventilation system just to breath.  We have created and spread these super bugs like MRSA, H1N1 and how many more is anyones guess, by trying to live germ free in our own daily lives.  Doesn’t happen people!

You tell me Internet.  Am I being ridiculous about not freaking out about H1N1 or am I a closet crack(ed) pot!
