  • working early on a sunday…

it amazes me how drink affects this country I live in.  from where I sit at work early on a Sunday morning, I see all sorts!  Now I have had my party days, but even at that you would find your way home before sunrise, or at least stopped drinking by then.  But not Ireland.  The night clubs don’t open until 11 or 12 at night and serve/operate right up to about 4am in most cases, then there is the late bar and if your staying in a hotel there is the residence bar and those serve for another couple hours at least.

And then they wonder why alocholism is a problem ….

  • and reality sets in …

so the first item has sold and it looks as if one of our two cars may be set to go later today.  no news yet on The Husbands LMO, but it is still early days yet.  emotions are running high and there are times I just don’t want to talk about this move as it seems to consume our lives and in many ways why shouldn’t it?

  • Xanga you hurt me ….

Xanga my frustrating friend, you cause me great distress sometimes.  You encourage me to post entries, to pour out my soul and let the world in …. and then you don’t save the post that I just spent the last 20 mins typing so carefully so that I could convey to the world what living in my little world is like.

Are you trying to push my buttons??  Coz yer doin a right good job of it!

  • calgary it becomes then ….

    WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO

The Husband got a “full job offer” that is in writing and now just awaits the LMO from the company.  We had already planned to go ahead to Canada anyhow, but this just makes things that much more …. more.

so while we had planned to head to Edmonton as there seemed that much more work there and a greater chance of Paul getting employment not only in his area of skill, but on the machines he wanted!  It now appears we may be heading a bit further south …. but at the end of the day it is drier climate (PRAISE GOD FOR THAT!!!! no really I’m not kidding!), better health care, less taxes, licences, house hold expenses, and cheaper groceries (the cheap milk is €1.69 for 2 litres/ 1/2 gallon ~ thats $2.66 USD or $2.71 CAD).

AND three Irish grandchildren get to be spoiled by one Canadian Nana! don’t know whose head is gonna be spinning, the children or my mother’s!  Not to forget the other gramma’s (both Canadian and American), Aunties, Uncles, Cousins.

  • update??

    we found cheap flights.

now to get them booked …..

  • Alanis eat yer heart out!

isn’t it ironic …. on Tuesday morning out of boredom at work I go on line and start looking at job prospects in Canada (Edmonton, AB to be precise) and as one of my sisters lives there, I put her address and telephone number details with Monster.ca (but I left all my current Irish details on my CV which I uploaded).  Wednesday afternoon (her time) Oldest Middle Sister messaged me on Facebook, there had been three phone calls for me at her house.  After talking with my sister yesterday, it seems they all came in with in hours of when I signed up with Monster.

So what is the irony you ask?!?

It took me two months to get an interview for the job I have now.  And in the two months I have been working here, I have applied for another dozen or more positions with no joy there either.  It is also a different work place over here.  For the position I hold here, I would have a medical and dental package included if I were to be in Canada.  This is unheard of in Ireland!  People are gobsmacked when I mention it.

Now tell me why should I want to stay here … ?!?!?!!!

  • as the rest of the country reals from a hangover ….

well here we are again…..  the request list. (for the praying types that read this and or anyone who is able to help…)

    the short list:

    1. job offers for Paul to actually (finally in some cases) come through so he can get a work permit.

    2. we start selling things for the money we need to sell them for to make money for air fares etc.

    3. Paul’s health to improve drastically as he has had to start seeing a doctor that costs us €150 a VISIT! (thats $237 or $232 USD) non including the costs for the tests that have been requested….

    The long version:

    1. recently I blogged about The Husband getting an initial job offer from a company in Edmonton, and how greatful we were about that.  Since then things have been quiet and for the moment we have heard no more ~ sort of.  The Husband has since had two more of the same “promise” of a job offer from two other companies.  Now it comes down to this, if the company does not already have a Labour Market Opinion from HRSDC which allows that company to hire foreign workers, they have to apply for one.  And as far as we know the companies that offered Paul the jobs either had an application in place OR were about to make one.   Now from what we can interpret from these websites, it can take several weeks to gain this LMO.  But there may also be a chance that a work permit can be gained without one.

    2. I have sold some items that were just waiting to be sold but none of the things we have been trying to or have sold went for the prices we want/need them to go for if they   even generated a phone call to begin with!

    3. Paul has been technically off work on sick leave for nearly a year and it is genuine although he wants to return to work more from boredom than being fully well.  We are frustrated with our GP as she hasn’t found any causes for Paul’s symptoms and doesn’t really seem interested in finding one.

If anyone is able to or feels lead to help in anyway we would be so very greatful.  I can’t tell you the strain we have been encountering when it seems that no matter which way we turn there always seems to be something that hinders the whole process.

  • for those who can only wish to be Irish (or in Ireland for that matter!)…..

    Happy Paddy’s Day!!!

May those who love us, love us
And those who don’t love us,
    May God turn their hearts
And if he can’t turn their hearts,
    May he turn their ankles
So we will know them by their limping!

that is ohh so typical of the folk here!!!

    Slan!

  • how hard is it to get my name right?

(Ikealover you are not allowed to comment on this one!!!)

Okay my first name ~ Rhea.  Loosely pronounced Reeeee-ya.

Not Reena, Rio, Reela and when it is said to you how hard is that to remember to pronounce.  I do understnad that if English is not your first language it could be a difficult one to wrap your tongue around and I get that people refer to me by the wrong name all together.  I get called, Leah, Tia, Maria all the time.  I don’t even mind when it is spelled wrong, its not an easy one to sort out if you have not seen it spelled, then again you should try some of the Irish names!!!, but I digress.  I can understand forgetting it all together, but when you have been corrected several times ….

    MY NAME IS ….. <<RHEA!!>>

  • not so much change after all….
