  • old made new again

I was given this collander when we came to Calgary as part of a whole lot of stuff from my beloved auntie’s house.  It now has a new lease on life.  My cousin was going to throw it away thinking that because it was so old I wouldn’t want it.  I think that its beautiful and all the cracks in the enamel just give it character.

  • is it me or do canola flowers smell like pot?

NOT THAT I KNOW FROM PERSONAL CONSUMPTION!

on Friday the car had to go in to the garage and to get it there I had to take The Husband to work.  And because of that I also had to collect TH at the end of his work day.  On the way back out to the edge of no-where, where the job site TH works at is located, I kept getting whiffs of this familiar, particular smell.  Now on either side of the road I was driving on were fields up on fields of canola plants in bloom.  I was also travelling about 80 kph so I was pretty sure that it couldn’t have been that smell I used to smell WHEN MY NEIGHBOURS USED TO SMOKE JOINTS ON THEIR PATIO! because with four windows open and three small children in the car, I certainly wasn’t doing such a thing and I doubt that the passing cars were giving off so much of that activity that it would waft into my car in the way that it was.

So, is it just me or do canola flowers smell like marajuana.

  • the dirty on the poopy situation

    gab pooped

So if you are one of my friends on facebook you’ll know that we have been having issues with Wee Blonde Child going pooh in the toilet and not her pants.  As it started a few months ago, while we were still in Ireland we weren’t sure if it had to do with the massive changes of moving to another country or was it a medical condition?  It also started when the weather got really good in Ireland and the children were outside playing all the time and WBC just maybe thought she would miss something, so why go inside to use the toilet when you can go in your pants?!?!  Accept Mummy gets really angry and is not so nice to live with after this happens with regularity.

Then we made the move, got to our new home and over the course of everything Wee Blonde Child’s bowels seemed to have settled down and we got back to “regularity” until week before last.  IT started again.  Then my sister visited and as she has … exponential … experience in this area (her son can’t go regularly with out the aid of mineral oil, or excessive fiber in his diet ~ and a legit medical condition).  Well after they left to go home ~ finally! (see here) WBC ended up to be made to sit on the toilet until she “let the poo come out”  I won’t go in to detail of the whole scenario, but there was so much stuff in the toilet that I am amazed that it not only fit in her little body, but that she was not physically ill from it all!  I thought we had it sorted out, then it started all over again at the end of the same week.

BUT I think I may have gotten WBC card marked.  It is gonna turn out that I will have to physically tie her to the toilet to make her go poop in the toilet and not her new auntie-so-graciously-bought-me-so-I’ll-not-dirty-my-pants panites.  So from now on that will have to be my tactic.  And if that doesn’t work?  Well do the words “free to a good home” ring a bell??

  • a second unwanted visitor

Last night as I the Husband and I were sitting at the kitchen table chatting at the end of his day, we spied a new visitor … a gopher

  • the unwanted visitor

we have a mouse.  I saw the wee blighter under my kitchen sink.  The lease says no pets.  This is a not wanted pet.  I may have to disregard what the lease says and get a cat….

  • freaks, geeks, and four dodgey tyres

okay we have visitors ~ our very first over night visitors to be exact!  And while they were much anticipated and received with joy, I think they wished they had stayed home.

SO.  Yesterday my sister, Susan, and her husband, David, and their son, Zachery, came down for a visit and to bring us the stuff that we left at their house when we moved to Calgary as it didn’t fit in our car when we left (about a 4 hour drive away).  They arrived about 12:30pm and then The Husband came home from work shortly after that so David and TH were sent to collect a set of bunk beds that we were to buy.  On the way to collect the bunk beds, the boys got a flat tire.  They no sooner got that fixed then there was a second flat tire.  Okay that one was fixed and other arrangements made to collect the bunk beds.  I was out collecting a few bits for dinner and a late birthday cake from DQ for The Husband (whose b’day was last weekend but because Susan had to get her tires fixed during the week so they didn’t come down then we did cake this weekend) when I get a call from The Husband and during the course of the conversation he tells me that a third tire went flat.  Yes now there are two repaired tires and a dolly wheel on my sisters car and a fourth tire that has a BIG question mark over.  In Calgary.  Not Edmonton. Not where they live. Or work.

So this morning we embark upon a new day.  And I am sure that the waiting is killing my unexpected house guests.  However the fact that we have a new laptop has taken the attention of my brother-in-law as he gets to play.  And quickly dicovers that the mouse pad is a bit temperamental. So after breakfast, when he and The Husband went to see about some new tires, he bought a new external mouse.  Thank You David.

Later we plan to do BBQ at the park across the street and possibly out on the lake.  It is a gorgeous sunny day and we have at least one bored child at the minute so once the banana bread is ready off we go!

  • thunder storm alley

I am beginning tro think that is where we have moved to.  So far since we moved in 1 July, we have had at least two thunder storms a week with this past week having two a day.  For once I am not plagued by headaches caused by the atmospheric pressure changes from the storms ~ The Husband is.  I know his pain and feel for his dilemma.
